YUKON, Oklahoma -

A ceremony celebrating the achievement of an Oklahoma community leader was held Thursday evening.

Family, friends, Oklahoma leaders and business colleagues surprised Bob Funk with the unveiling of a life-size sculpture depicting an American cowboy on horseback created by Oklahoma sculptor John Rule. It was also Funk’s 75th birthday.

Funk was honored with the statue for his life-long commitment in preserving Oklahoma’s western heritage including the Chisholm Trail.

The statue will be erected at a historical marker along the Chisholm Trail. In 2017, the nation will celebrate the trail’s 150th anniversary.
