Outstanding Oaks Leads Dodgers To Sixth-Straight Win

Dodgers pitcher Trevor Oaks took a no-hitter into the seventh inning and pitched his first career nine-inning complete game in an 8-1 Dodgers win against the El Paso Chihuahuas Monday night at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.

The Dodgers collected a sixth straight victory and swept their four-game series against the Chihuahuas for their fourth series sweep of the season.

Oaks (5-1) set career highs with both 9.0 innings pitched and 11 strikeouts. His 11 strikeouts also marked a season high by a Dodgers pitcher this season.

He held the Chihuahuas scoreless until the ninth inning, allowing just one run and three hits on the night. He did not issue a walk. Oaks threw 106 pitches, including 78 for strikes.

Oaks became the eighth PCL pitcher this season to complete a three-hitter. He has pitched across three levels of the Dodgers system and became just the third pitcher in the Minors with 14 total wins this season.

The Dodgers’ offense also continued its recent tear, tallying eight more runs to bring their run total in the four-game series against El Paso to 33 runs.

Oklahoma City (69-52) scored the night’s first run in the second inning in front of a crowd of 3,870.

Brandon Hicks hit a RBI double into left field that scored Will Venable from first base to give the Dodgers a 1-0 lead.

The Dodgers opened the bottom of the third inning with four straight hits.

Austin Barnes led off the third inning with a double. He advanced to third base on a single by Andrew Toles, then scored on a RBI single by O’Koyea Dickson that dropped into shallow right field for a 2-0 Oklahoma City advantage. Corey Brown followed with the Dodgers’ fourth hit of the inning – a double – to bring home Toles for a 3-0 lead.

Will Venable later drew a one-out walk to load the bases for Hicks. He then drew a bases-loaded walk from El Paso starting pitcher Carlos Pimentel to bring home Dickson for a 4-0 advantage.

Oklahoma City racked up four more runs in the fourth inning.

Back-to-back RBI singles by Corey Brown and Charlie Culberson brought home two more runs for a 6-0 advantage.

A two-run homer by Venable – his third of the season – then extended Oklahoma City’s lead to 8-0.

El Paso’s Hunter Renfroe doubled on a liner to left field with one out in the seventh inning for El Paso for the first hit of the night allowed by Oaks.

The Chihuahuas later broke through the shutout in the ninth inning with back-to-back hits. Carlos Asuaje doubled to lead off for El Paso before Renfroe hit a RBI single for the Chihuahuas’ only run of the night.

Oaks then retired the next three batters to wrap up the complete game.

El Paso pitcher Pimentel (11-7) was charged with the loss. He allowed eight runs and 10 hits over 4.0 innings with four walks and six strikeouts.

Five Dodgers players recorded multi-hit games, as Oklahoma City outhit El Paso, 13-3.

The Dodgers remain home and next open a four-game series against the Albuquerque Isotopes at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.
