The Oklahoma City Dodgers’ recent struggles continued Monday night as they lost to the Iowa Cubs, 3-2, at Principal Park.

With the loss, the Dodgers have now lost eight of their last nine games, including three straight games.

Oklahoma City moved the tying run into scoring position and got the go-ahead run on base in the top of the ninth inning, but Iowa reliever Corey Black struck out the final two Dodgers batters to end the game and earn his fifth save of the season.

Iowa (51-66) took a 2-0 lead in the four-game series, grabbing the game’s first lead Monday.

Iowa's Tim Federowicz hit a two-out RBI single in the first inning to give the I-Cubs the early lead, 1-0.

The I-Cubs took a 2-0 lead in the second inning. Munenori Kawasaki led off with a single, stole second base, then moved to third base on a groundout. He scored on a sacrifice fly by pitcher Drew Rucinski.

Iowa pitcher Rucinski retired 16 of the first 18 Oklahoma City batters he faced and held the Dodgers to one hit through five innings before the Dodgers broke through in the sixth inning.

Micah Johnson drew Oklahoma City’s second walk of the night with one out. Later with two outs, he scored the Dodgers’ first run of the night when Austin Barnes' two-out RBI double to right-center field to cut Iowa’s lead to 2-1.

Iowa quickly answered in the bottom of the inning on back-to-back doubles to center field by Iowa’s Jeimer Candelario and Federowicz for a 3-1 advantage.

Iowa’s Taylor Davis followed with a liner to right field, and Federowicz was thrown out at home on a one-hop throw from right fielder Yasiel Puig to catcher Barnes to keep the score, 3-1.

In the seventh inning, O’Koyea Dickson hit a one-out double to right field and Corey Brown followed with a RBI single to score Dickson and cut the I-Cubs’ lead to 3-2 in the seventh inning.

Dickson has now scored at least one run in 14 consecutive games, tallying 17 runs.

The Dodgers (63-52) put the tying run at second base, and the go-ahead run at first base in the top of the ninth inning.

Pinch hitter Andrew Toles sent a liner to right field for a single with one out. Puig followed and drew a walk. Puig finished the night 0-for-3 with a walk in his second game with Oklahoma City.

Iowa pitcher Black then struck out Dickson and Brown for the final two outs of the game.

Making a rehab start, Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Brett Anderson (0-1) pitched 5.0 innings, allowing two runs and six hits. The Stillwater High School product did not issue a walk and recorded two strikeouts. He threw 71 pitches, including 46 strikes.

Iowa starter Rucinski (6-12) held the Dodgers to one run and two hits over 6.0 innings for the win. He issued two walks and struck out five.

The Dodgers’ road series against the Iowa Cubs continues at 7:08 p.m. Tuesday at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.
