Michael Blackmore is in the business of protection.

He owns Armor Advantage based in Purcell, and he sells body armor internationally to military and law enforcement agencies.

Blackmore said he makes a decent living but now he wants to give one million armor vests to U.S. law enforcement, firefighters, and EMTs, free of charge.

“We have a product and a system that can save lives, we have to get them in police cruisers," he said.

He calls it project “Everyday Heroes.”

His inspiration is born out of the recent deadly police shootings.

Some might think he's setting the bar too high, but not officer Greg Lindsey with Lexington police.

“He’s capable of doing what he’s out to do and he’s very driven, I wouldn’t be surprised if he blows that goal out of the water,” Lindsey said

Lindsey's mother believed in the vests so much she dipped in her own pocket to buy vests for the entire Lexington Police Department.

"It’s good to know we have that extra something to put on that gives me a better chance to get home to my wife and kids,” said Lindsey.

Approximately 10 percent of Blackmore's international sales will help fund his free vests here in the U.S.

In two weeks, they've already given away 30 free vests.
