The Oklahoma County District Attorney cleared two Oklahoma City police officers involved in a deadly shooting in June aboard an Oklahoma City bus near NW 23 and Classen Boulevard.

In a letter, District Attorney David Prater said the bus security video shows the officers had no choice.

Police said Miguel Chavez-Angles was on a crime-spree and boarded an EMBARK bus on June 24 in an attempt to get away.

After making demands of the driver, who told passengers to get off, he attacked officers.

"They engaged the suspect without hesitation and with the understanding that innocent citizens were in imminent danger," Prater said. "During the struggle it appeared that the suspect was attempting to point the muzzle of the weapon at the officers."

Oklahoma City police Chief Bill Citty commends their actions.

"They both probably saved each others' lives based on what could have occurred if he was able to get a hold of that gun," Citty said.

"The suspect gave Officer [Daniel] Carlie no viable option to deal with the threat other than a deadly force response," Prater said.

Neither officer nor any bystanders were hurt in the ordeal.

Police said Chavez-Angles did not have a criminal record but was distraught over a potential divorce.

They said before getting on the bus, he smashed out a car window and forced two women to drive him a short distance.
