With news surfacing yesterday of Cowboy receiver Marcell Ateman’s foot injury and subsequent surgery, which could keep the senior sidelined into the beginning of conference play, here’s a look at the candidates to fill the void.

Jalen McCleskey – already penciled in as a starter and poised for a breakout sophomore season, McCleskey may see even more targets out of the slot. He logged 29 receptions for 253 yards and three scores as a freshman.

Jhajuan Seales – an occasional starter the past three seasons, Seales is the frontrunner to replace Ateman on the outside opposite James Washington. He’s shown flashes of brilliance but never come close to the numbers he put up as a freshman.

Austin Hays – another reliable veteran who was on the field a lot last season, Hays and Seales are the last remaining receivers from the 2012 class. Hays can play at any receiver position and is always good for a catch or two per game.

Chris Lacy – the big receiver out of DeSoto, Texas is getting more and more playing time each season. As a sophomore a year ago he saw action in every game and had a big homecoming game against Kansas with 76 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Dillon Stoner – a true freshman from Jenks, Stoner might be in line for early playing time. He’s already impressed during summer workouts and was a 400-meter state champ in high school.

Tyrell Alexander – Oklahoma State’s top-ranked recruit in the 2016 class, Alexander is an athletic receiver who could have an instant impact in OSU’s aerial attack.
