LINCOLN COUNTY, Oklahoma -

Authorities have identified a missing skydiver, who was found dead in Lincoln County, Oklahoma, Monday morning.

The body of a 26-year-old Sheralynn Neff of Newton, Kansas, was found just after 8 a.m. at Little Street and County Line on the Lincoln County side, according to Charlie Dougherty, Lincoln County Sheriff.

About 3:45 p.m. Sunday, a skydiving school in Cushing sent up an aircraft. Neff was participating in a program and had jumped six times on Sunday. After her last jump, her parachute was found in a tree near Harmony Road and Grandstaff about five miles from Cimarron Correctional Facility.

Neff was not found near the parachute. Dougherty said the parachute floated away. The harness was attached to the parachute. When Neff was found, she was only wearing her jump suit.

She was found in tall grass and thick brush. Helicopter search crews could not locate her, so other rescue crews searched by foot for more than 16 hours before they found her.

Neff’s brother was notified. He was with her in Cushing. He contacted the parents.

The Federal Aviation Administration, Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, and Medical Examiner’s Officer are investigating, trying to piece together this mystery.
