All Steven Zoeller was trying to do was catch a Pokemon monster inside the OU football stadium here but instead, he got caught himself.

“All the gates were locked and we were trapped inside the stadium,” Zoeller, 25, said on Saturday.

He and two others playing “Pokemon Go” had wandered into the OU football stadium hunting for a rare-monster when the gates locked behind them just before 11:30 p.m. on Monday, July 18. The Pokemon was called a “Squirtle,” a turtle-like monster which is held in high regard among players.

“I was thinking about calling my boss to let him know I wasn't going to be on time to work,” Zoeller said with a wry smile.

Instead, Zoeller took to Twitter to document his capture in real time, saying, “Yo, I'm trapped in the OU football stadium. I wandered in here after a Squirtle and someone locked all the gates. I'm looking for an adult.”

“My battery was running low on my phone, I was live tweeting at the time. So I was like 'do I continue live tweeting? Do I call my parents and tell them I love them? Do I call for help or do I keep looking for the Squirtle?'” he said recounting his misadventure, although he eventually decided he would keep hunting for the monster.

After a few minutes and several more harrowing tweets, a man with a key showed up to let Zoeller and his friends out. Zoeller said he got the feeling this wasn't the first time something like this had happened.

“He was strangely nonchalant as if this was something that happened very frequently,” he said.

While his time in captivity may have been unnerving, Zoeller called it a new lease on life and “Pokemon Go.”

“You know, I stuck around a little bit and caught some more Pokemon,” he said before walking away to continue playing.
