Mosquito spraying businesses have seen a boom in business due to the threat of the Zika virus.

“We have quite a few customers that are very concerned about Zika,” said Evan Brown who owns OKC Mosquito Militia.

Brown’s business has doubled since last summer, even though he says the mosquito population hasn’t dramatically increased.

OKC Mosquito Militia added 143 customers in June.

“As long as we've been in business, we haven't had a month like that,” said Brown.

Meanwhile, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has announced that Oklahoma will receive $302,000 for fighting the Zika virus.

“The majority will be for a statewide informational campaign,” said Scott Sproat, the Dir. of Emergency Preparedness and Response.

In February, the state set up a Zika virus task force and Oklahoma has benefited from grant money to pay for programs.

“A lot of it centers around surveillance and investigation,” added Sproat.

Oklahoma has had 12 travel associated cases of the Zika virus.
