OKLAHOMA CITY -

Pastor John Peoples said he's no stranger to Civil Rights movements but he said he never gets used to the pain of the senseless killings that have become so common in our country.

The sound of prayer filled the halls of Faith Memorial Baptist Church Saturday evening in Oklahoma City.

The gathering was inspired by tragedy, a consolation to a grieving nation.

"Being a minister, I know the one thing that works and that’s prayer,” Peoples said.

The most recent pattern of loss started with the fatal shootings of Alton Sterling in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and Philando Castile in Minnesota at the hands of police.

“It’s very painful, the crime and the violence that are taking place in this country. It’s painful to all of us," Peoples said.

Tragedy struck again at a shooting at a Black Lives Matter rally  in Dallas, claiming the lives of five law enforcement officers; Brent Thompson, Michael Krol, Patrick Zamarippa, Lorne Ahrens and Michael Smith.

Peoples honored all their families as well as the family of the Dallas shooter.
