Some Residents Say Norman Commons Apartments Infested With Bed Bugs
NORMAN, Oklahoma - Some tenants at the Commons Apartments in Norman, Oklahoma, said their apartments are infested with bed bugs.
Tyler Clement said he is so uncomfortable with the bed bug situation in his apartment, he spent Wednesday night sleeping in his car.
Thursday, he said enough is enough.
“I happened to wake up at 4 in the morning and it was on my ceiling crawling around,” said Tyler.
He said the bugs mess with him on a, “psychological level.”
It's a problem Tyler Clement and his girlfriend Nikki Swafford said they thought started with a new roommate.
That's until they found out previous roommates in the same apartment had similar complaints.
Now a few weeks after resigning their lease, they said they want out.
“This wasn’t my problem, I didn’t have any of this I feel like this is unnecessary, I had to throw away my couches, my bed all my stuff from when I was a kid. It has bugs on it and stuff and I don’t want to deal with it,” said Tyler.
News 9 spoke with Commons at Oak Tree property managers and they said they aren't to blame for the unwelcome guests. They said in a statement, one of the roommates moved in with used furniture and waited as long as three weeks before alerting their office.
Managers explained they have a process that includes heat treating the entire apartment for bed bugs.
Nikki and Tyler said they'd just renewed their lease six weeks ago, and had they known there were bed bugs they wouldn't have signed.
Property management said they won't break the lease and they are confident the bed bug problem will be resolved after a heat treatment.
