Stillwater Police Investigate Sexual Battery Near OSU

Stillwater police are investigating allegations of sexual battery at an OSU fraternity house. The case involves two teenagers staying at the home for summer camp.

No Farmhouse fraternity members are involved in the investigation. Over the summer, their house was rented out to a university-sponsored college prep program for high schoolers.

Police say on June 29, an Upward Bounds camp counselor reported an incident of sexual battery between two 16-year-olds staying at Farmhouse. An alleged incident said to have taken place several days before.

“They interviewed the victim this morning for the first time and the case is still open and pending,” said Captain Kyle Gibbs, Stillwater Police Department.

Because of that, police are not releasing many details about what may have happened inside the OSU fraternity house.

The now empty home is often rented to outside groups during the summer when members aren't living-in.

Farmhouse released a statement, saying in part: "We have offered our house to this group in the past because we believe in the mission of this program to encourage young people from challenging backgrounds to stay in school."

Upward Bounds is a federally-funded college preparatory program for high school students.

For six weeks, Upward Bound students live on campus, participating in a variety of academic and social activities.

"It is unfortunate, this regrettable incident shines a negative light on what is a fine program," an OSU statement said.

Once the counselor learned of the incident both police and parents were notified immediately.

“There's several interviews to go to determine if there is a prosecutable crime involved and exactly what needs to be done,” said Gibbs.

OSU officials said they will continue to support Stillwater police as they investigate the claims.
