Oklahoma State head coach Josh Holliday has been named the 2016 ABCA/Diamond Midwest Regional Coach of the Year, it was announced today by the American Baseball Coaches Association.

Holliday is one of eight coaches to earn 2016 Regional Coach of the Year accolades in NCAA Division I. Each of those coaches is eligible for the ABCA/Diamond National Coach of the Year award, with that winner being announced Friday.

Oklahoma State is coming off a 2016 season in which Holliday led the program to a 43-22 record and its first College World Series appearance since 1999. The Cowboys won two games at the CWS, which marked the first time they had won in Omaha since 1993, and OSU was one of the final four teams remaining in the CWS field.

After entering the NCAA Tournament with a 36-20 record, which included finishing second in the Big 12 Conference with a 16-8 league mark, OSU swept three games at the NCAA Clemson Regional to advance to the fourth Super Regional in program history. The Cowboys continued their perfect run in the Supers, knocking off South Carolina on its home field to advance to the College World Series.

OSU opened the College World Series with consecutive 1-0 wins, marking the first time in history a team has recorded back-to-back 1-0 shutouts at the CWS. The Cowboys also never trailed in their first seven NCAA tourney games.

Holliday is one of 17 persons in NCAA history to reach the College World Series as both a player and head coach after playing for OSU CWS teams in 1996 and 1999.
