Hospitals have already fallen victim to cyberattacks, but now there's a new threat. Hackers can now take control of medical devices, even those implanted inside patients.

The machines are supposed to help you, but new data proves they can put patients in harm’s way.

Experts say medical devices can be directly hacked using their wireless communication feature, and all a hacker needs is Wi-Fi to do it. While nothing like this has happened yet, the FDA has sent a warning to health care facilities to stop using a popular pump that regulates IV drips because it is hackable.

However, experts say patients can do a few things to reduce their risk, like making sure they get the latest model of the device because it will come with better security than previous models.

Experts also say it's up to hospitals and manufacturers to strengthen cybersecurity.
