The Cowboys and Sooners each have a representative among the five ESPY nominees for Best Male College Athlete.

For Oklahoma, Buddy Hield was named the Big 12 Player of the Year each of the past two seasons while winning the Oscar Robertson Trophy, Naismith Trophy and Wooden Award as the 2016 national player of the year. He was OU’s first consensus All-American since Blake Griffin (2009) and finished his career as the Big 12’s all-time leading scorer with 2,291 points.

For Oklahoma State, Alex Dieringer won back-to-back-to-back wrestling national championships. He won his first title at 157 pounds in 2014 and then went 66-0 the rest of his career winning his last two titles at 165 pounds. For his career Dieringer is 133-4 and ends on an 82-match win streak. He only gave up three takedowns over the past two dominating seasons.

The 2016 ESPYS are hosted by John Cena on Wednesday, July 13th at the Microsoft Theater in downtown Los Angeles.
