Rain could not stop a candlelight vigil Sunday night to honor 16-year-old Keandre Bowser.

The circumstances weren't ideal but the message was clear.

The Bowser family is no stranger to the tragedy of loss.

In 2014, Keandre was holding the rifle that took the life of his best friend Lebron Davis in an accidental shooting.

Keandre's father, Adrian Bowser, said it was a loss his son never fully recovered from.

“He still hasn’t gotten over his friend. He wanted to be with his friend and that’s where he’s at now,” Adrian Bowser said.

A premature death brought on by gun violence.

“My momma had this sad look on her face, then I guessed somebody died,” said Kentrell Kendrick, one of Keandre’s young cousins.

Keandre was shot and killed Friday after an argument in the street front of his home.

His grandmother, Althea Swait said she found him on the ground.

“(I) saw him lying there on the ground, what the heck. I asked the police if he was gone before the ambulance got here, they said yeah. That hurt. That hurt bad,” she said.

Both Mortellus Hill and Christopher Johnson were arrested less than a day after the shooting.

But Keandre's family says that does not stop the hurt.
