About 9:30 a.m. Saturday, crews called off their search for missing 8-year-old Damion Davidson after finding what they think is his body.

Damion, a non-verbal autistic child, wandered away from home in the 1400 block of N. 7 Street in Duncan in the middle of the night, during heavy rains. His parents found items stacked near the entryway of the home which they think Damian used to unlock the door.

Investigators looked for the boy for two hot weeks.

“There's fatigue. Basically they're fatigued to the point where everyone made the statement I'm glad it's over,” Duncan police Chief Danny Ford said Saturday afternoon.

Nearly 100 volunteers helped search the Soles Ranch land in Duncan on Saturday where the body was found.

Ford said they were confident the body was Damion’s based on visual recognition and a description of his underwear.

The medical examiner’s office still will positively identify the body and determine a cause of death.

Based on surveillance footage and witness accounts, investigators think Damion was following his route to school. He also had a fascination with water and at least one witness said they saw him playing in the creek that authorities say took his life.

“As much as we did want to find him alive at least we didn't - we have some closure. We don't have to worry now whether he's hungry, cold, scared and now at least we can lay him to rest,” Damion’s aunt Kathy Davidson said.

She also thanked the volunteers who helped search for Damion in the last several weeks.
