A 7-year-old boy and his grandmother are fighting for their lives after a head-on crash in Logan County. The family was on their way to an appointment in Edmond when troopers say another driver lost control.

Both Albie Reed and his grandmother Lena Shingleton are still in critical condition at OU Medical. With permission from his parents, News 9 spoke with Albie's therapists about the time they spent with him.

It wasn't like the Reed family to miss an appointment at Sensational Kids in Edmond or even be late, despite their drive from Crescent.

“It was kind of automatically like something where we knew that something had happened,” said Shannon Nagy, Albie’s speech pathologist.

Albie Reed, 7, worked with both Shannon Nagy and Alicia Isbell for the past two years to improve his speech and motor skills.

“Full of life! He always had a smile on his face. We loved getting to see him. And we think he loved getting to see us” said Shannon Nagy and Alicia Isbell, Albie’s occupational therapist.

Rocking on the swings was the way Albie always started his weekly visits. But Wednesday, a few minutes late for his appointment, Shannon and Alicia became concerned.

“Our front office called mom and that's when she became concerned when they weren't here because they were always here early,” said Isbell.

Albie's grandmother usually drove him to the appointments often with a few siblings in tow.

“Whenever we had realized that they couldn't get a hold of them they had actually pulled up the News 9 website and you guys had that aerial shot and I mean I knew. I knew that that was their van,” said Nagy.

Investigators say Albie's grandmother's van was hit head-on by a driver who over-corrected after going off the road.

The driver of that car was thrown nearly 75 feet and died on the way to the hospital.

Fire crews worked for an hour to free Lena Shingleton, Albie's grandmother.

Ablie's 9-year-old brother died in the crash.

“It's changed two families lives completely,” said Nagy.
