A 7-year-old boy is going above and beyond to thank a nurse who he met when he was only 3 months old.

Quentin’s family lived in Tulsa at the time. He had seizures ever since he was born and at 3 months, Quentin developed respiratory syncytial virus.

His family made a quick bond with a nurse named Heather Yates at The Children’s Hospital in Tulsa.

“The nurse helped keep Quentin alive when he was at Children’s. She was an incredible nurse and I  know she still is an incredible nurse,” said Diane Beckett, Quentin’s mom.

Soon after, Beckett said Quentin moved to The Children’s Center Rehabilitation Hospital in Bethany. The family kept in touch with Yates.

Wednesday marks his seven-year anniversary at TCCRH, and the family wanted this to be a memorable day.

They found out about more than a year ago that Yate’s son, Trevor, was diagnosed with a very aggressive form of brain cancer called glioblastoma multiforme. Trevor was 17 when he was diagnosed. He is 18 now and still fighting the cancer.

Since then, Beckett has been growing out Quentin’s hair. He’s grown his hair out 11 inches and on Wednesday, they chopped it all off and donated it to Locks of Love in honor of Trevor.

“We just wanted to do something to honor Quentin’s life and to honor Trevor’s too and the fight they both have,” said Beckett.

Beckett said Quentin wasn’t expected to live longer than 1 year, but he is now 7 years old.  They are rooting for Trevor to beat the cancer and fight the disease like Quentin.

News 9 spoke to Yates over the phone, she described the close relationship she has with Beckett and Quentin and is grateful for their support.
