With sports head injury awareness at an all-time high, a new flag football league is bursting onto the local scene. It’s called “Friday Night Lights.”
The league originated in California ten years ago. More than 20,000 kids, kindergarten through 8th grade, participate.
Bob Fleet is the new league commissioner. He said both boys and girls play. There will be a nine-game schedule starting August 19.
They’ll play at D-Bat Sports Complex on Friday nights, and teams will practice just once a week.
“Because of the structure of the league, with no blocking or tackling, there’s a lot less likelihood of another injury, such as concussion,” he said.
Registration is $150, which will include a team jersey. Click here for more information.
