A new study says spending endless hours at the office may be linked to mental illness.
New research from scientists in Norway determined that there's a link between being a workaholic and mental illness. Researchers studied just over 16,000 working adults that work over 40 hours a week, and this is what they found: Just over 32 percent of workaholics had ADHD, 25 percent had OCD, and 33 percent had anxiety. Nearly 9 percent met the criteria for depression.
Based on the numbers you could assume being overworked is driving people to have mental breakdowns. But researchers say that's not completely the case.
Taking work to the extreme maybe a sign of deeper psychological issues, and that those issues could force people to work longer hours.
Experts say more research needs to be done in order to truly determine whether being a workaholic causes mental illness, or if you're a workaholic because of mental illness.
