A Del City man was arrested Wednesday and is accused of setting fire to his home.

Investigators say the timing of the fire led them straight to their suspect.

Just two hours before the fire, the man, now facing an arson charge, was served with a protective order and an eviction notice from his grandmother who owns the home, the possible ignition point of the fire.

Most of the damage to the Del City home is on the inside but fire officials estimate the damage to be about $25,000.

“It's really confined to the upstairs as far as the fire damage. A hallway into a bedroom. The rest of it was smoke and water damage,” said Maj. Brandon Pursell, Del City Fire Department.

A neighbor told News 9 they saw smoke coming from the home about 1:30 p.m. Wednesday. This was not long after police served 34-year-old William Morgan with an eviction notice and a protective order.

When fire crews arrived, they found Morgan at the end of the road and immediately took him into custody.

“We knew early on that there is a possibility that this could be suspicious, that this could be intentionally set,” Pursell said.

While in custody, officials said Morgan confessed to starting the fire in an upstairs bedroom. Investigators have yet to determine a motive, but believe the court documents from earlier in the day may be to blame.

Morgan is facing an arson complaint.
