Big 12 To Bring Back Football Championship Game

The Big 12 elected to bring back the football championship game in a unanimous vote on Friday, Commissioner Bob Bowslby announced. The game is set to return in 2017 and unless the conference expands beyond 10 teams, we’re guaranteed to see a rematch in the championship game.

Bowlsby said the game would generate an additional $28 million approximately for the conference and Oklahoma president David Boren added that the 13th data point was a key factor because of the boost it could provide toward getting a spot in the College Football Playoff.

Bowlsby said the Big 12 will likely go to two five-team divisions and Boren noted that conference expansion will continue to get consideration, but the Big 12 still needs more information at this point.

After the Big 12’s decision to update its walk-on transfer rules yesterday, this has been a very eventful series of summer meetings by the ADs and Presidents.
