A bill to get uninsured drivers off Oklahoma roads is on the desk of Governor Mary Fallin, awaiting her signature.

According to the Insurance Research Council, Oklahoma has the highest rate of uninsured driver in the country. Roughly 26 percent of drivers don't have insurance.

If this bill passes, it allows law enforcement to work with companies to install cameras that will take pictures of car plates. The data collected would be matched with insurance company records. Information about drivers caught without insurance would be sent to district attorneys to issue fines.

One state representative out of Bartlesville said it sends the message, "if you're going to drive in Oklahoma, you've got to have insurance.” But Rep Lewis Moore said lawmakers need to find another way to crack down on uninsured drivers, one that "doesn't require more spying on people with these cameras.”
