Maria Hines has lived on West Park Place in Oklahoma City for years.

In that time, she said she’s noticed plenty of familiar faces.

“That lady walks up and down here every day!” she said.

The lady is Cheryl Anderson, and she lives at Grace Living Center, an assisted living facility.

Anderson shops at the nearby Whittaker’s Supermarket, it’s a trip she powers through despite being limited to a walker.

Those trips were cut short last week when police say she was robbed on the way home.

Police have surveillance video of two young men seen hanging out in front of Whittaker’s moments before the crime.

“Anytime you see somebody in a defenseless state such as this woman, that probably bothers a lot of people,” Oklahoma City police Master Sgt. Gary Knight said.

People like Hines.

“When an elderly woman is attacked and taken for everything she has, that’s a mental rape,” Hines said.

Police say Anderson wasn’t seriously injured but did suffer bruises to her rib and her side.

Hines said she saw Anderson moments after the robbery.

“She was just in tears, shaking, her legs were shaking, (and) her hands were shaking. My heart just went out to her,” Hines said.

Too late to stop the crime but Hines said the suspects looked familiar.

“Don’t come back here. We’re watching,” she said.

Police encourage anyone with leads on the suspects to contact Crime Stoppers at 235-7300.
