A busy Memorial Day weekend could mean a longer wait in airport security checkpoints.

According to AAA, 38 million Americans will travel. That's the most since 2005.

In recent weeks more travelers flying out of Chicago or New York said they've missed flights due to long security lines. At Will Rogers World Airport, a spokesperson said wait times have gotten as long as 45 minutes, and with the upcoming Memorial Day weekend, they want travelers to plan ahead.

Karen Carney, the airport's spokesperson, told News 9 two security lanes will be open at peak times or whenever they see lines are getting longer at one checkpoint.

Carney told our partners at the Journal Record anyone flying out Oklahoma City typically gets through security in 15 to 20 minutes.  But more people are traveling, less are checking in bags, and there's a national shortage of TSA screeners. All of this is leading up to longer security lines.

Nationwide, air travel is expected to increase more than one percent since last year.

AAA recommends no matter where you're flying out of, arrive two hours before your flight in case of those long security lines.
