A 27-year-old Yukon woman is earning great praise for what she did with a bag of money she recently stumbled across.

Catherine Gatz is a single mother of two who works as a waitress at the Green Chili Kitchen in Yukon.

Two Saturday’s ago, Gatz took her kids to Yukon’s annual “Festival Of The Child.”

Gatz saw a large cheetah-print bag on the ground, and, because she loves cheetah print, she opened the bag.

She said it was full of $20 and $50 bills.

Yukon Parks and Recreation Department Director Jan Scott said the bag contained ticket proceeds from the event.

The bag had fallen off of a golf cart earlier.

Gatz turned the bag and the money in to event organizers immediately.

“I knew in my heart that the reason it was a cheetah print bag full of money, is that I would pick (it) up and find, was because I would be the one to return it,” she said.

The City of Yukon gave Catherine a thank you card, as well as a $100 Yukon parks and recreation department gift card.
