The Oklahoma multicounty grand jury has indicted a teacher at Oologah High School for second-degree rape, documents filed Thursday say.

Kathryn "Katie" Michelle Wilmott, 29, is named in the indictment for having sexual intercourse with a student who was 17 years old at the time. According to the document, Wilmott and the student had sex at an Owasso residence between December 24, 2015 and January 8, 2016.

Wilmott teaches English at Oologah High School and the alleged victim was in her class during the spring 2016 semester, documents say. That teacher-student relationship constitutes rape under state law.

She and the boy reportedly communicated through the mobile app "Snapchat," using her phone and phones belonging to other students.

Wilmott surrendered on Friday and pleaded not guilty at an arraignment. Her bond was set at $10,000. She was booked and released almost immediately.

Oologah superintendent Max Tanner confirmed to News On 6 in February that a staff member was being investigated by the OSBI for "inappropriate contact" with a student.

He also said on February 11 that the district immediately notified law enforcement when the allegations surfaced and the unnamed staff member was placed on administrative leave.

Wilmott was not offered a contract for next year, the Oologah Lake-Leader reports.

Her attorney released a statement to News On 6.

"Through counsel, Ms. Wilmott emphatically denies the allegation contained in the indictment that's been filed in Rogers County," Greg Dark said. "We are looking froward to clearing her good name."

It is the policy of News On 6 not to name the alleged victims of sexual assault.
