Two inmates are back in custody after authorities said they escaped from the Jim E. Hamilton Correctional Center in Hodgen, Oklahoma, to pick up three duffel bags full of contraband by a nearby road early Monday morning.

According to the Oklahoma Department of Corrections (DOC,) correctional officers performed a special count and noticed two inmates, Gregory Shreve and Lucas Hudgins-Delacruz, missing. The facility went into escape procedures and called in a bloodhound tracking dog to help with a perimeter search for the missing inmates.

A short time after officers began searching, they discovered the two inmates hiding under a trailer on facility property. The two inmates were then taken back to the facility.

The tracking dog searched the area where the two inmates were believed to have been and found the contraband that was left in a nearby creek bed.

Both the dog and handler had spent the previous two weeks at the K-9 headquarters in Pauls Valley, being trained in man tracking, according to the DOC.

Interim Corrections Director Joe M. Allbaugh said the quick action from the staff at the facility turned a dangerous situation into another big win for the department.

“Inmates with contraband pose a serious threat to everyone at the facility,” said Allbaugh. “The effort and vigilance from the correctional officers and bloodhound that tracked these men down and recovered the contraband did an outstanding job to ensure the safety and security of the facility.”

The following is what was found inside the bags:

  • 30 pounds of pipe tobacco
  • 5.6 pounds of smokeless tobacco
  • .54 pounds of marijuana
  • 10 blue tooth headsets
  • 5 cell phone chargers
  • 50 lighters
  • 2 bottles of Hennessy
  • 2 boxes of rolling papers
  • 15 cellphones
  • 3 packs of cigarettes
  • 10 packs of cigars
  • 2 bags of tobacco leafs
  • 6 cans of air freshener
  • 2 boxes of mouse traps
  • 10 rolls of electrical tape
  • 2 sets of scales
  • 4 USB flash drives
  • 4 packages of Velcro
  • 2 bags of rubber bands
  • 2 bottles of shampoo
  • 1 do-rag
  • 1 pocket knife
  • 3 bottles of liquid that tested positive for opiates

Shreve is serving time on the offense of robbery with a firearm. Hudgins-Delacruz is serving time on multiple offenses, including second-degree burglary and knowingly concealing stolen property.
