Mother's Day Surprise For A Family Who Lost Their Home To A Fire

Fire destroyed a home in Nichols Hills, and the family says they lost just about everything.

This Mother's Day, they're trying to start over, and they got a little help from local business owners.

Just two weeks after her parents' home burned down, Anna Hibbard was scrolling through Instagram and saw a Mother's Day giveaway contest. She decided to write in about her own mother and what she just lost.

"It'll be 34 years this summer," Christy Johnson said. "It's a little overwhelming."

Decades of memories were gone before this family even knew it. They were out of town when their home caught fire. For more than 30 years, this was home.

"Pretty much lost everything that they had, and my mom lost her sweet dog," Johnson's daughter, Anna Hibbard, said.

"I almost think it's harder for the girls since they did grow up there and have so many memories," Johnson said. "We'll make new memories."

Hibbard was scrolling though Instagram, saw a mother's day give away, submitted her mother's name and described the loss she was experiencing.

"I don't know that we can rebuild the house structurally," Johnson said.

Making over their home again may not ever happen, but this makeover did. 

Her home may have been in shambles and her lifelong possessions now gone, but Hibbard's submission won.

Several businesses in Classen Curve donated services, including a pampered visit to Blo. salon as well as jewelry which is something else Johnson lost in the fire.

However, they still have each other, and even though the fire took the home of past Mother's Day, there's one thing it can't touch on this one.

"We can make new memories," Hibbard said.
