New Food Truck Park Opening At OKC Farmer's Market

Thunder fans looking to grab a bite to eat before tonight's game against San Antonio had a new option. It's called Delmar Gardens Food Truck Park. 

We're next to the iconic Farmers Market Building just west of downtown. If you like food trucks, Delmar Gardens has got it all for you.

Glen Franklin spent 25 years as an insurance analyst.  A few years ago, he chucked it all, grabbed his Mom's super top secret chili recipe and jumped into the deep end of the pool.

"I didn't do this for the money obviously, food truck people do it for the passion. Doing it for my mom...raked me over the head," Franklin told News 9.

Franklin’s food truck is one of as many as ten food trucks that will circle Delmar Garden's every day. They'll open at 10 a.m. and shut down at 10 p.m.

"Why not is the right question. We've got a great area...just as close to downtown as Bricktown," said development attorney Bud Scott.

The Farmers Market hired Scott three years ago to transform this 10 square block area just West of downtown.

"Anyone who is trying to buy property down here understands it's a very hot spot," said Scott.

It's an area that was an eyesore just two years ago. There's a grocery store and a brewery nearby. Clay Berkes operates the already thriving bar and restaurant PowerHouse.

"Oh yeah I mean this is just tremendous. It's monumental," said Berkes.

Bill Farris brought the annual Oklahoma City Garden Fest here this weekend.

"Can you imagine this place becoming a hot spot sometime? I think it is happening right now," Farris said.

Many decades ago, Delmar Gardens was a hub of activity in Oklahoma City. There was a race track, beer garden. Now it looks like it's coming back.
