You hear us report on home burglaries quite often and safety is a concern for many people. But a trip to the hardware store could change all of that.
Most home break-ins happen when burglars kick in your front door. That's why experts say it's important you replace the 3-quarter inch screw that comes standard with most locks.
Two good kicks to a door with the normal 3-quarter inch screws, and the jam broke. But change out the standard screw for 3-inch, stainless steel ones, and 20 kicks later the door is still shut. Experts say that's because the shorter screws only go into the door jam, but the longer ones go into a stud. They say that can double the strength of your doors.
It's also important to get good quality screws because cheaper ones can snap. Best part, The two screws that held that door only cost 98 cents.
