Officials Warn Of New Scam Targeting EMV Chip Cards

Everywhere you turn these days scammers are trying to steal your personal information. New microchip-enabled credit and debit cards are supposed to make it harder for crooks. But they're working on ways to get around that. 

It was only a matter of time. Millions of us now use the new micro-chip credit card. But federal officials warn of a new scam, targeting the EMV chip cards.

The cards were just introduced in the U.S. only three years ago. Here's how the new scam works. Scammers pretend to be card issuers, and send emails to people who haven't yet received their new chip cards.

The email asks to update the account by giving personal information, or to click on a link to continue the process. By clicking the link, malware can be installed on your computer or mobile device.

Officials say if you get an email asking for your personal information, don't respond and delete the email.

Just to be safe, IT experts suggest just don't ever click on any links in an email.
