School Raises Money, Provides Support For Cancer Patient

Crooked Oaks Public Schools is rallying around one of its students. She was diagnosed last month with a brain tumor.

Now, Central Oak Elementary is working to send her family on a trip.

Family and faith holds this family together. Weeks of increasing dizzy spells began impacting Cynthia Grant vision and it puzzled Cynthia and her parents.

“If would lay down I would get dizzy,” said Cynthia Grant.

“It was like I was taking her from the school to the doctor. School to the doctor, trying to figure out what we are going to do,” said Crystal Grant, Cynthia’s mother.

In March, doctors diagnosed Cynthia with an aggressive brain tumor found at the base of the brain. A large tumor, the cancer is already stage four.

But Cynthia is a fighter. She's now in her fifth week of daily radiation and chemotherapy.

“I don't expect nothing. The only thing I ask everybody is to pray because there is power in prayer,” her mother said.

Next month, in Cynthia's honor, the school is hosting a fundraiser.

“This school is like a little community in of itself and we decided we wanted to help by raising some money by doing a fundraiser,” said Laura Knight, assistant principal.

An event that will include a fun run, carnival games, and auctioned items, money all going to the family.

“They went above and beyond and I didn’t expect it,” said Crystal Grant.

Even if you can't attend, Cynthia and her family say there is one big and powerful way you can help.

“Just to everybody, pray for my daughter. That's it. And we will receive a miracle,” said her father, Jose Hernandez.

The school is still looking for items to be auctioned off at the event on May 10.
