Edmond Public Schools Braces For Budget Reductions

Edmond Public Schools is bracing for a $3.5 to $4.0 million budget reduction for 2016 to 2017, a district spokeswoman said.

During a school board meeting Monday night, Superintendent Bret Towne said the district's strategy would be to garner savings in areas that do not directly impact the classroom. 

Administrators said they have identified $2.1 to $3.3 million in savings that come from revenue enhancements and cuts. 

They said a large portion of savings will come from cuts to general operations such as utilities, maintenance and custodial. 

A more detailed proposal will be released in the coming weeks, the spokeswoman said.
