The recent budget failures are taking a serious toll on the State Health Department, specifically on the programs that help the poor access health care.
The department is planning to cut $4.2 million by the end of June because of mandatory 4-percent across-the-board cuts to state agencies. This means cuts to clinics for the poor, colorectal cancer screenings for the uninsured and dental health training.
