Jim Littell, Brittney Martin Take Home Big 12 Coach, Player Of The Year Awards

Oklahoma State women's basketball has produced the league's coach and player of the year it was announced on Wednesday. Jim Littell and Brittney Martin became the first tandem to take home the respective awards in the program's Big 12 history.

Martin was also tabbed as the league's co-defensive player of the year after leading the league in steals for the third time in her career.

In his fifth season at the helm of the OSU program, Littell has guided the Cowgirls to 20-win campaigns each year, including a 21-8 mark this season. After being picked eighth in the preseason poll, Littell's squad finished fourth with an 11-7 league mark, matching the school's single-season mark for conference wins. Four of those victories came against squads ranked in the Top 25.

With her recognition, Martin becomes the first Cowgirl to be named the top player in the league since Liz Brown won consecutive Big Eight Player of the Year awards in 1990 and 1991.

On five occasions, she has been named Big 12 Player of the Week and has been named the College Sports Madness Big 12 Player of the Week four times. Martin was also a first-team Academic All-Big 12 pick this season.

A unanimous all-league pick for the second year in a row, Martin was also named to the league's all-defensive squad for the second consecutive season.

Martin is on pace to become the first player in Big 12 history to finish as its leader in scoring, rebounding and steals in the same season. The Syracuse, Utah native currently checks in at 20.4 points, 11.3 rebounds and 2.9 steals per contest. Martin also leads the league with her 19 double-doubles.

Nationally, she ranks 24th in scoring, 12th in rebounding and 16th in steals per game.

For her career, Martin is the first Cowgirl to record 1,700 points, 1,100 points, 300 assists and 300 steals. Her 340 career steals rank first nationally among current active leaders, while her 1,103 rebounds are seventh and her 37 double-doubles rank 16th.

Joining Martin as an all-conference selection was sophomore Kaylee Jensen, who earned second-team honors. The Genoa, Neb., native ranks seventh in the league with her 15.3 points per game and is fourth in rebounding at 8.6 boards per contest.

Jensen also ranks among the top 10 in field-goal percentage at 51 percent and is fifth with her 1.7 blocks per game. Her 10 double-doubles on the year are the fourth-best total among league players.

The All-Big 12 honors were chosen by the league's head coaches, who are not allowed to vote for their own student-athletes.
