Battered Cowboys Face Cyclones As Season Approaches Denouement

To say things aren’t going well for Travis Ford in Stillwater would be an understatement. His team is 12-17 and ninth in the Big 12, having lost four-straight. His two stars are out for the season and the rest of the roster has been ravaged by injury as well. On top of it all, his fan base is more interested in who will take over as head coach than it is in attending games.

Just when things couldn’t get worse, here come rumblings that four-star freshman Davon Dillard is off the team for the rest of the season.

Ford’s depleted squad takes on No. 21 Iowa State at Hilton Coliseum tonight at 6 p.m. CT tonight. The Cyclones (20-9, 9-7) aren’t playing for the Big 12 title they hoped for, but they are playing for seeding in the Big Dance.

Iowa State came away with a 64-59 victory in the first matchup between the two this season. The Cyclones got 18 points and 9 rebounds from Georges Niang while the Cowboys were led by Jeffrey Carroll’s 18.

Without Forte, Evans and Hammonds, Oklahoma State will have to find someone to score. Jeff Newberry, Tyree Griffin and Tavarius Shine will have to lead the way once again with Joe Burton and Carroll chipping in.

The Cowboys have only broken 70-points in conference play twice and haven’t done that since Jan. 23rd. They’ll wrap up the regular season at home against No. 23 Texas on Friday.
