Midwest City Mayor Jay Dee Collins announced he has conceded the mayoral recall election.
In Tuesday’s election, retired police officer Matt Dukes got 56 percent of the vote while Collins received 35 percent. The recall election was brought on by the city’s police and fire unions who believed the Collins was misusing city resources and taxpayer funds.

Despite Dukes receiving the majority of the vote, recall provisions in the city charter made Collins the winner instead.
Another recall election was scheduled for April 5.
Friday afternoon, Collins sent out a statement thanking his supporters but saying it’s time for city employees to come together and move forward.
