An elderly couple found dead Tuesday in their northwest Oklahoma City home had been shot and decapitated, Oklahoma City police said.

The couple was identified as Sharon Reed, 59, and James Earl Reed, 78.

Police have arrested Sharon Reed’s grandson in connection with the double homicide. He is identified as Quinton Laster, 20, of Oklahoma City.

Neighbors and friends are still reeling from the news of just how brutal these killings were.

They told News 9 the couple had lived here for the past five years and their grandson had lived with them for the past two years.

“He just came up to my door and knocked on it,” said Jerry Lyons, who lives just down the street. “And he'd been there the night before.”

He said when Laster showed up at his home, he seemed confused and panicked.

“And I saw this gun hanging out of his pocket,” Lyon said. “And I said, 'what the hell are you doing with that? Get rid of that!'”

Lyon said Laster put the gun down on the ground and then proceeded to tell him his grandparents were dead.

“I said, 'somebody killed your grandmother?' And he said ‘yeah,'” Lyon said. “And I said ‘you need to call 911 call them right now.'”

Lyon said instead he was the one who called 911, and when police arrived, they found Laster outside. Officers then found the Reeds killed in one of the rooms.

“Their heads were almost cut off and they had been stabbed and they had been shot,” relative Brenda Jackson said.

She is still in shock over the gruesome circumstances of her sister and brother-in-law's deaths.

She is even more shocked that the person accused of the crimes is her own flesh and blood.

“It was just horrible just horrible,” she said.

Jackson said Laster moved out of his mother's house after a violent incident there, but he was said to be doing fine, as long as he wasn't using drugs.

“You could say he was a troubled kid,” Jackson said. “He had to by high on something.”

Jackson said Sharon Reed ran a daycare out of her house and had done so for more than 20 years

“And oh she enjoyed it," Jackson said.

Both she and police confirm there were three children, ages 3 and under, inside the home when officers arrived and discovered the bodies. The children were in a separate area of the home.

“I don't think the kids saw anything,” Jackson said. “They heard it.”

Laster is being held without bond in the Oklahoma County jail on two complaints of murder. Police said they are not searching for any other suspects.
