Staying Inside? Watch For These Causes For Winter Allergies

Posted: Updated:

If you're experiencing itchy eyes, stuffy nose and headaches, doctors say it's probably not the common cold. We found out what's inside your home that's causing winter allergies to flare up.

For many of us, allergies during the winter months can be just as bad or worse than spring. And there are no signs of slowing down anytime soon, with cool weather in the forecast.

Doctors say as it gets cold, people are forced inside. They're exposed to dust and mold.

If you have pets, you are likely exposed to more dander. Doctors say the best thing to do is keep your pets out of your bedroom.

Some other small steps can make a big difference.

"For dust make sure you wash you sheets in very hot water. A dehumidifier can be helpful with dust mites as well. If you have shower curtains and they have mold on them either replacing them or cleaning them can make a big difference," said Dr. Ron Kuppersmith with Texas ENT & Allergy.

Cedar can be another annoying problem this time of year.

For outdoor allergies, doctors recommend a saline rinse like a neti-pot.
