Cowboys Take Down Auburn, Add To Big 12 Win Total

While most of the Big 12 was busy taking care of business against the SEC on Saturday, Oklahoma State (11-10) was doing its part by picking up a win for the conference with a 74-63 win over Auburn in Alabama.

The Big 12 finished Saturday with a 7-3 advantage in the Big 12/SEC Challenge.

Freshman star Jawun Evans poured in 21 points in the win while also adding seven rebounds and five assists.

Oklahoma State delivered blow after blow to the Tigers early in the game, and the Cowboys held a 24-11 lead nearly midway through the first half until Auburn finally started to get it going. Led by TJ Lang, the Tigers were able to get within two points before the end of the first half, but OSU’s Chris Olivier and Tyree Griffin were able to get the Oklahoma State lead up to nine points before intermission.

The Cowboys held that large lead for most of the second half, but the Tigers would never go away completely. Auburn’s Kareem Canty made things interesting with 6:28 left in the game when he made a pair of free throws to bring the score within five points, but Evans put an end to the Auburn run and the Cowboys were able to hold off the Tigers the rest of the way.

Olivier scored 16 points off the bench while Leyton Hammonds added 10 points of his own. Jeffrey Carroll totaled nine points and five rebounds while Jeff Newberry added six points.  

Canty led the way for Auburn with 21 points and eight rebounds and Tyler Harris had a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds.

Oklahoma State will be back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Lubbock to take on Texas Tech.
