A burglary suspect is in custody following a standoff with police at a home in southwest Oklahoma City, Thursday morning.

The suspect, later identified as 33-year-old Kenneth James Hodge, was inside a home at S.W. 149th and S. MacArthur, and was refusing to come outside. He was eventually taken into custody just before 10:30 a.m. Thursday.

According to police, Hodge first kicked in the homeowner’s door late Wednesday night. The homeowner fired one shot at Hodge, who then ran into the woods.

When the homeowner went to work Thursday morning, the ranch hand called the homeowner and told him there was a strange man wandering around his property. The homeowner then returned home and found out that the man wandering around was the same suspect who kicked in his door Wednesday night, later identified as Hodge.

Police responded to the same home again at 8:48 a.m. Officers learned that the homeowner and Hodge scuffled briefly before the homeowner disengaged from Hodge and called police.

Hodge then ran into the home and locked himself inside. The homeowner told police that Hodge appeared to be high on drugs.

While inside the home, police said Hodge drank several cans of soda, took a shower and then dressed himself in some of the victim’s clothing before surrendering peacefully to officers.
