Some of the largest U.S. airlines just increased their ticket prices at a time when their profits are soaring.

If you plan to book a flight with United, Delta, or Jet Blue, get ready to pay an extra $6.00 for a round trip ticket. All three airlines also raised rates, $3, for one-way fares. It comes at a time when the industry is under investigation by the Justice Department for potentially conspiring to limit flights and keep fares high.

Airlines companies have denied this. Still, U.S. airlines brought in almost $18 billion during the first three quarters of 2015.

Industry analysts say the latest fair increase was modest and was the first in quite some time.

"What's good news for consumers is when airlines are profitable, customers, the communities and investors and employees win because they're re-investing that money back in to the business," said Jean Medina, Airline Industry Expert.

It is important to note the airline business is boom and bust just like oil. Since 1990, the industry has landed in the red 11 times. In 2005, it lost nearly $29 billion.
