Melissa Hawkes

Melissa Hawkes joins the News 9 team from KPRC in Houston, Texas, where she was a general assignment reporter. She is a proud graduate of the Bob Schieffer School of Journalism at TCU and enjoyed cheering on the Horned Frog football team. While in college, she interned at KXAS NBC 5 and fell in love with telling people's stories. She also spent a summer in Sydney, Australia studying journalism abroad.

Melissa grew up right outside of Houston in Katy, Texas. As a child, she was always told by her family, she asked too many questions, but little did they know question-asking would be the foundation of her future career!

Her first television job was at KATC in Lafayette, Louisiana where she was a reporter and fill-in anchor. She reported extensively on the BP Oil Spill and Mississippi River Flooding. A series of stories about off-shore oil workers who got stranded during Tropical Storm Nate in 2011, earned Melissa a First Place AP Award for the Best In-Depth Story. Her stories have been featured on CNN, ABC World Now and Good Morning America.

She's no stranger to Oklahoma, she spent two years at KOKI. Her husband is a Tulsa native and she's happy to call the Sooner state home.

When she isn't telling people's stories, Melissa enjoys spending time with her husband and two Maltese dogs and exploring all the city has to offer.
