Many people are throwing their money into office pools to increase their odds of winning. But going that route can go south really fast if you're not careful.
Joining an office pool may sound fun, but there are things you need to do before you take the dive.
In 2013, a group of Indiana hairdressers sued a co-worker. They claimed they all went in on a lottery pool which resulted in a winning ticket. However, the co-worker said she bought the winning ticket personally, at the same time and same location.
To avoid spending your Powerball winnings on court fees, attorneys suggest you make sure everyone is on the same page.
It's also helpful to have an agreement in writing. Have the buyer send a picture of the tickets so everyone has the numbers.
Finally, consider a person or attorney to represent you as a group when you win. If you still haven't purchased your tickets, you have until 8:59 Wednesday night to do so.
