Midwest City Workers Raise Money For Man Who Needs Heart Transplant

A Midwest City man is in need of a heart and his former coworkers with the city are trying to raise money to help.

Corey Mosley worked with a utilities crew for almost 15 years, but got very sick and had to medically retire.

It all started last year when he couldn't get rid of a cough. “I thought it was like a cold or something like that. But it was something much worse,” he said.

Turns out, he had pneumonia and was also told he had congestive heart failure. Doctors said his heart was giving up. But Mosley was not.

“I will fight for them till the day I die,” he said.

His family, his friends and his faith, he says, are the reasons he’s survived some very dark days.

While hospitalized, he died and came back on two different occasions.

“When his color changed, I saw it. I knew. I knew it was going to be bad,” his wife, Antonia said.

She saw in her husband what she sees in her patients working as a hospice nurse.

Mosley now needs a heart pump to help keep it working until he can get a new one. That procedure alone costs six figures.

Former coworkers in Midwest City said they miss having him around and want to take away his worries about money. They set up a fundraising account to help Corey with the sky-high cost of the surgeries that could save his life.

“My family and my friends mean so much that I don’t want to give up on them. So just take it one day at a time and keep going, put a smile on my face,” Mosley said.

Doctors are currently monitoring Corey's heart for oxygen levels. They have to lower to a certain level in order for the insurance to help cover the surgery for a heart pump.
