A Cleveland County Sheriff’s deputy captured a prison escapee near Lexington, Oklahoma, on Saturday.

According to the Sheriff's office, about 9 p.m., the deputy was driving eastbound on State Highway 39, near the Twisted Oaks Road intersection, when the deputy saw a man walking on the south side of the road.

The deputy stopped and spoke with the man, who identified himself as 44-year-old Ronald Edwon Marvin. Marvin told the deputy that he escaped from Lexington Reception and Assessment Center earlier in the day. The deputy confirmed Marvin’s identify with the CCSO Communications Center. Dispatchers verified that Marvin had escaped from prison and he was entered in the National Crime and Information Center database.

The deputy arrested Marvin. A short time later, Department of Corrections personnel met the deputy and Marvin was returned to their custody.

Sheriff Joe Lester released a statement, saying law enforcement officers face danger everyday on the job.

“On Saturday evening, this deputy was on routine patrol when he noticed a subject walking down the highway and stopped to investigate,” Lester said. “The escapee had nothing to lose and the encounter could have taken a dangerous turn. Thankfully, our deputy was able to apprehend the inmate without incident and return him to DOC. Had it not been for our deputy, the inmate might still be at large posing a threat to our community. I want to commend the deputy for a superb job and doing his part to keep Cleveland County a safer place for its citizens.”

Marvin was serving time at the Lexington Correctional Center on multiple charges including possession of firearm after conviction or during probation, knowingly concealing stolen property, and false pretense over $500 or con game.
