A mild evening is expected across OKC with a south breeze and temperatures remaining in the 50’s.

Overnight as the moisture increases, we could see some showers with temperatures climbing into the upper 50’s by sunrise. This is ahead of our cold front that will come crashing through, ending the mild weather big time by Saturday afternoon.

Temperatures will fall quickly into the 30’s and 40’s by late Saturday afternoon. As showers and storms develop across the central and eastern half of the state, a few storms could be strong especially across southeastern Oklahoma. Rain will be likely at times through Saturday night as the colder air slowly continues to build.

By Sunday morning temperatures across the metro will range in the lower 30’s. The winter storm will be in full force with freezing rain, sleet and snow creating very dangerous driving conditions through the day. North winds through the day will be sustained at 25-35mph with gusts especially in western Oklahoma near 60 mph possible.

Colder air arrives Sunday night into Monday as the freezing rain and sleet becomes a burst of heavy snow by Monday morning. Conditions will slowly improve through Monday afternoon as the snow tapers off across the state, but temperatures will remain cold in the upper 20’s to lower 30’s.

This is a very complex storm system that one degree and one county could make all the difference.  So maps could change based the speed, strength and track of the low pressure. Stay tuned and keep checking back!

Merry Christmas!
