Edmond police are investigating a case of check fraud and they say the suspect also had a fake I.D.

It's a crime that can happen to anyone.

Fraud investigators said no one is immune. Check fraud is one of the most common scams out there, and police said, one check is all a criminal needs to get the job done.

“This type of crime is on the rise, so people need to really watch out for their information that is being used,” said Sgt. James Hamm, Edmond PD.

And police want to talk to a man seen in surveillance photos. In the screen shots, it appears he's running out of the Edmond Wal-Mart off I-35.

Police said he tried to pass a check that wasn't his, for more than $100.

“He has a fraudulent Oklahoma I.D., and then the name on that ID is not exactly, but it’s similar to the name on the check,” said Hamm.

That fake I.D. was confiscated by police.

Hamm said they don't know how the man got a hold of the checks. Real checks and a real Oklahoma license, something Hamm said investigators don't often see in these cases.

“However both of them contain fraudulent information,” said Hamm. “We also would like to know how this person is getting a valid driver’s license made with fraudulent information on it as well.”

The name on the license was Eric Grant Voss. Police admit catching up with the suspected thief may not be as easy as they would like.

“That’s why we’re really motivated in this case because we have these good photographs of the suspect,” said Hamm.

Police said there is a possibility the man seen on those store surveillance cameras could be linked to other check fraud cases.

If you recognize him, call Edmond police.
